Quarter Horse vs Thoroughbred

Quarter Horses are built to sprint: they reach top speed very fast and are quickest over about a quarter mile (440 yards), which is where the name comes from. Thoroughbreds run longer races, measured in furlongs, and keep their speed much longer. Over a short sprint the Quarter Horse is faster; over a mile the Thoroughbred is.

Coming to Lone Star Park: the AQHA Racing Challenge in 2027

The AQHA has announced that the AQHA Racing Challenge, which it calls one of the most prestigious American Quarter Horse racing events, comes to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie on October 23, 2027. It moves from a three-year run at the Downs at Albuquerque, and Lone Star Park will become a seven-time host of the event. Source: AQHA, July 28, 2026.
